Broadcasters Celebrate Free Speech Week

As we commemorate Free Speech Week, local radio and television broadcasters are celebrating one of the cornerstones of our democracy and a principle that is critical to the important work of journalists. Every day, radio and television broadcasters exercise their First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and of the press to deliver essential, fact-based news and investigative reports to keep their communities safe, informed and connected.

To support these efforts, NAB launched a campaign on September 22 to honor the First Amendment, providing a toolkit for media professionals, policymakers and the public with on-air and digital resources to join the celebration.

Radio and television stations across the country are also airing We Are Broadcasters spots produced by NAB. The spots highlight broadcasters’ commitment to exercising their First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and of the press to provide critical and factual news to their communities. As our communities and nation have confronted the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, civil protests and unrest over racial equality, wildfires and hurricanes, and a divisive political election, we are reminded how essential a free press is to keeping all of us informed and connected during our most troubling days.

NAB is proud to highlight broadcasters’ important work through these spots, our First Amendment campaign and by sharing stories of local radio and television stations’ incredible commitment to serving their communities.
